Cowboys Fans Crying About Pass Interference Like Their Defense Didn’t Give Up 44 Points
The Lions beat the Cowboys 44 to 30 on Thursday Night Football. The flashpoint for discussion is this play from the fourth quarter, 3:50 on the clock, 3rd and 3 in the red zone and offensive pass interference called on Turd Ferguson:
Ferguson grabs the shoulder pad with his left hand. There’s really not much to it, but it’s not like there’s NOTHING there. Dak throws a little high, but it’s a catchable pass. Cowboys fans are all over the timeline saying that the reason Ferguson didn’t make the play is because Alex Anzalone, of the great Berks County, has his arm wrapped around the waist and is preventing him from jumping, but it was hardly egregious.
The Cowboys ended up kicking a field goal here to make it a one-score game, 37 to 30 with about 3:30 remaining on the clock and all three timeouts. Then Detroit returned the kickoff for 42 yards and needed just three plays to score, going 51 yards in 1:23 to extend the lead to 14. Dak threw a pick on the next possession and that was all she wrote.
The only real storyline from that game is that the much-heralded Dallas defense once again looked like Swiss cheese. Their three-game winning streak was against Geno Smith’s Raiders, an Eagles offense that totally collapsed and forgot how to play football, and a Kansas City team that just doesn’t have it this year. They go up to Detroit and give up 408 yards and allow a score on eight of the Lions’ 11 possessions, which would have been nine of 11 without the missed Jake Bates field goal.
So the magic number for the Eagles to win the NFC East is three. Any combination of three Birds wins and three Dallas losses. The hardest remaining game for the Cowboys is the Chargers at home while the Birds have the Chargers and Bills on the road.
You have to feel bad for the Cowboys, though. They never get calls to go their way! (sarcasm thicker than yo mama after a trip to Shady Maple)
