Because he’s going to Nashville:

Dianna Russini reported last week that Tennessee was the destination if Daboll didn’t get the Buffalo job, which went to Joe Brady.

Make no mistake, this is a good gig. You get to coach Cam Ward in a low-pressure environment while enjoying a longer leash as part of a brand-new coaching staff. Expectations aren’t particularly high in Nashville, so you’ve got some runway here to settle in and work with 2025’s #1 draft pick.

But every guy linked to the Eagles who ends up going somewhere else turns into an indictment on the Eagles, right? Is that how we’re doing it? Everything is a referendum on the Eagles and if Daboll or Mike McDaniel or someone else takes a different job it means Jalen Hurts sucks and Nick Sirianni is a toolbag, right?

Feels pointless to do that.

More than anything, this is an atypical NFL job market. There were a ton of head coach and coordinator openings. Candidates rarely have this kind of leverage or “optionality,” which isn’t a word but people use it anyway. Maybe the Eagles’ gig isn’t as attractive as people think it is, or maybe the pressure isn’t worth it or maybe the weather sucks. It could be any number of things, but what we do know is that if you come here and do well, you get a head coach job. See, Steichen, Shane; Gannon, Jonathan; and Moore, Kellen.
