Never Heard of this Dude the Eagles Hired, but I Love the Move
The Eagles hired Jeff Stoutland’s replacement:
Apparently he was a guard for the Broncos from 2006 to 2013. Then he started his coaching career at Columbine High School in 2015 (yes, that Columbine), and had assistant O line stints with the Dolphins and Broncos (on Fangio’s staff) before landing the Minnesota job under Kevin O’Connell. His contract expired this winter and he was a free agent.
Couldn’t tell you a single thing about this guy and it doesn’t matter anyway. Andy Reid, Doug Pederson, and Nick Sirianni were not sexy hires and look how they turned out. Unfortunately, this dude has the distinction of replacing Jeff Stoutland, which is tough, but we all wanted changes on the offensive side of the ball and we got changes. We got a new OC, new QB coach, new line coach, and some new players will be coming in. First thing Kuper should do is call Landon Dickerson and convince him not to retire, then we go from there.
It’s funny to go back 13 years and try to remember the reaction to Stoutland’s hiring. I don’t remember much other than Stoutland having Alabama on his resume, and people being satisfied with that. It’s not like it was some big deal anyway, the hiring of an offensive line coach. For context, this was shortly after the failed “Dream Team” season and Big Red’s disastrous final year, when Juan Castillo was moved to defensive coordinator and Howard Mudd came in to run the O line. Fans were so burned out and disillusioned back then that every new hire was seen as a breath of fresh air.
More recently, the Eagles have nailed almost every big hire while drafting well and going to two Super Bowls, so they get more than the benefit of the doubt. If you don’t like it, take a break. Go outside and touch snow.
