Eddie Alvarez and Mike Perry Explain Knucklemania Brouhaha Outside of the Ring
Knucklemania VI took place this past weekend, and in addition to the fights inside of the ring there were several donnybrooks outside of it, one involving Philly’s Eddie Alvarez and former BKFC opponent Mike Perry.
I couldn’t see much of anything at the time, just a mass of bodies being tossed around in front of media row, but Eddie took off down the tunnel afterward and appeared to leave the venue entirely.
Here’s what happened from each perspective:
You following all that? Drunk Perry says someone bumped into him, then he made a comment to Eddie Alvarez’s son, and it all went to shit from there. Sounds like it could have been de-escalated, who who really knows?
From my perspective, most of the people in the building were liquored up and itching for a fight. It could not have been more than 3 degrees outside, everyone had been cooped up indoors for weeks, and the bouts weren’t as exciting as they were a year ago. You take 18,000 fight fans who probably box or practice BJJ themselves and it was the perfect formula for a melee or two, or three or four. Nothing wrong with a good scrap here or there, but it probably doesn’t help our reputation as Philadelphia sports fans. However – no one likes us, we don’t care.
