Just Like RATT, Lane Johnson is Back for More (EDIT – and Landon Dickerson)
Lane Johnson is coming back:
There was some scuttlebutt that Johnson would call it a career at age 35. He only played 10 games this past season after suffering a Lisfranc injury, which forced Fred Johnson to step into the right tackle role for the second half of the season and the playoffs.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record at this point, the offensive line was wiggity whacked out this year. Cam Jurgens and Landon Dickerson were never close to 100%. Johnson played his fewest amount of games since 2020. Tyler Steen was a first-year starter and Jordan Mailata didn’t look like his Pro Bowl self. Then the Birds reportedly meddled with Jeff Stoutland’s responsibilities and he ended up leaving, which seems dumb when considering that the line was not physically where it needed to be.
If you’re a pragmatist, you’re banking on these guys coming back fresh and healthy. The 2024 season took a lot of out of them. They played 21 games and run blocked for Saquon Barkley several hundred times. That took a lot of tread off the tires. They probably didn’t even fully recover from the Super Bowl season by the time training camp started.
Thank you to Lane, by the way, for coming out and confirming that he’s returning. Anything that squashes speculation and fearmongering is welcomed.
Johnson is back, he’s back for more.
EDIT – so is Dickerson:
