Get Amped for Flyers vs. Penguins by Rewatching the 2012 Playoff Brawl

As you may have heard, the Flyers are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2020 after a huge shootout win in South Philly on Monday night. There’s a ton to talk about, but before we get into the nitty-gritty, I think it’s important we all get into the correct frame of mind (Absolutely jacked up!!!). The best to way to achieve this, of course, is by gathering around and rewatching the 2012 brawl against the Pens:
For those who don’t have 13 full minutes to watch this, let’s break down each key moment:
- James Neal gets the party started with a dirty hit on Coots
- The crowd raining down boos after the no-call (Flyers fans demanded blood… Ask and you shall receive…)
- Neal lays another dirty hit on Claude Giroux
- In steps Scottie Hartnell to fight Craig Adams, and Adams pulls Hartsy’s hair (Coward…)
- Sidney Crosby feels frisky enough to exchange words with Brayden Schenn (but not frisky enough to drop the gloves, of course)
- Peter Laviolette gets in assistant Tony Granato’s face after the Pens send out the fourth line, clearly just to head-hunt
- Lavy has to be separated from the man. He was ready to brawl too!
- The crowd bellows the chant, over and over: “You can’t beat us.”
And indeed, they couldn’t. Flyers won this game 8-4 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series with the dub. A beautiful time. A wonderful video. Let’s do it all again this Saturday. Play the damn song…
