“Fuckin’ Pussy” – Travis Sanheim Thinks Taylor Hall Hit Was “a Pretty Dirty Play”
The Flyers lost 4-1 on Thursday and the season is pretty much over. It was a great season, and we’ll get to that soon enough, but first, Travis Sanheim speaking on the hit he took from Taylor Hall in the 2nd period of Game 3:
“I was just trying to make a play on the puck. I feel to one knee and was just trying to get it out. In a vulnerable spot and he decides to finish his check, and just felt like his hands drove my head right through the wall. I thought it was a pretty dirty play. Just felt like he could have laid off a little bit, and he decided to put me into the wall. I guess that’s his decision.”
It was reviewed and given as a two-minute boarding call.
Obviously the argument from the Canes side is that Sanheim was going down and Hall couldn’t predict that or do anything about that. You see him put his hands up immediately, as if to say, “he’s dropping to a knee, what am I supposed to do?” But the side-angle replay shows that he kind of pushes Sanheim’s head during the sequence, so it’s either Hall trying to react and brace himself or he’s sneaking a dirty shot in there and disguising it well. Only he knows for sure.
Either way, the Flyers did a poor job keeping their composure in Game 3. Lots of penalties, pointless scrums, etc. They gave up a short-handed goal after this particular hit and then fell apart later. That’s after they played a really solid first period and hit iron a couple of times. They could have easily been up 1-0 or 2-0 in this game.
They need more experience, some more talent, and a functioning power play. They did really well to get this far in a rebuilding season. And it is indeed a rebuilding season no matter what people tell you.
