The Mets Giving Up an Inside-the-Park Grand Slam is Something Everyone Can Enjoy

The Mets have quietly been playing pretty well recently – winning six of their last eight – which means they were due for something like this:
This is what it’s all about. A beautiful video that everyone in the Philadelphia area – young or old, rich or poor – can really bask in. No matter who you are, no matter your current station in life, this monumentally embarrassing error is tailor made for you to watch over and over and quietly smile about. What a lucky break for all of us, to get such an abundance of wonderful images in such a brief clip:
Nolan McClean leaving a hanging slider right over the plate. James Wood barreling it. Nick Morabito tracking the fly ball in a weird-looking, spazzy little-kid run, strangely jumping into the air, and kicking his legs out spread-eagle, forming a kind of leg-wishbone shape. The ball bouncing off the heel of his hand. Morabito falling on his ass. His hat and sunglasses exploding off his head:

Then – and this is maybe the best part – Tyrone Taylor standing over Morabito’s splayed-out body and just staring at him. What is Taylor doing? Why isn’t he chasing the ball down? Why is he standing up so straight? His posture is outstanding. But it’s a very bad time for good posture. Athletes should almost never be standing up this straight. Especially when the baseball he desires is so far away from him:

Incredible. In today’s complicated world, moments like this are a beacon of hope and light, a reminder that despite our differences, our similarities far outweigh them and bind us together: We all love when the Mets are bad. Thank you, Mets, for this gift.
