Good News for the Rest of the NFC East, as the Giants Extend Joe Schoen
The Giants extended Joe Schoen:
Schoen has been the Giants’ GM since 2022. That was the 9-7-1 year in which they overperformed with Daniel Jones and somehow won a playoff game against the Vikings before being throttled by the Eagles in the Divisional Round. The Giants then extended Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley was later traded to the Birds, and New York had three straight losing seasons while the Eagles won the Super Bowl. Brian Daboll was eventually fired and the Giants went out and hired John Harbaugh.
Giants ownership has liked how Schoen has worked collaboratively with Harbaugh, and John Mara said last year that he thought the organization’s decision-making process was the best he has seen during his time with the team. The franchise is optimistic about its future, specifically with Harbaugh as the coach and Jaxson Dart as the quarterback. The Giants are also overjoyed about their most recent draft class, beginning with top-10 picks linebacker Arvell Reese and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.
Well okay. You can’t suck forever. They’ve had high draft picks for years now and those draft picks became Reese, Mauigoa, Dart, Abdul Carter, Malik Nabers, Deonte Banks, Evan Neal, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Some hits and some misses in there, as well as some super-young guys that we’ll find out about. It seems like the Harbaugh hiring has papered over whatever Joe Schoen cracks existed previously, and the G Men like this “collaborative” thing they’ve got going on, though it seems like Harbaugh is the actual GM and Schoen is GM in title.
Regardless, they haven’t won anything on the field. They’ve won the offseason, apparently. We’ll see if they can win some football games now.
Go Birds.
