Peter Laviolette Has Now Coached 21.8% of the NHL’s Teams
The LA Kings named Lavy their head coach:
Lavy was fired by the Rangers in April. Previously, he coached the Caps, Predators, Flyers, Hurricanes, and Islanders, so it’s 7 out of 32 NHL teams, or 21.8% of the league. Incredible!
It’s funny, the stereotype about the NHL recycling head coaches. Stereotypes are oftentimes be true. The league does in fact shuffle coaches back and forth.
According to “The Google,” it’s Mike Keenan who has coached the most NHL teams, with eight total. He helmed the Fly Guys, Blackhawks, Rangers, Blues, Canucks, Bruins, Panthers, and Flames. Scotty Bowman coached five teams and Joel Quenneville and Paul Maurice are currently active and on their 5th teams. (EDIT – and TORTS! Torts is on his 6th team now)
Lavy is only 61 years old, so he could get to eight teams, or even nine. His Capitals stint was three seasons and his Rangers stint was also three seasons, so he’d be able to squeeze in 2-3 more coaching gigs by the time he turns 70 years old.
As for his strategy with the Kings, sources say he’s looking to “get some fucking jam in the building.”
