Knicks Fans Threw Eggs at Wemby’s Head – What’s Left to Say About These Truly Bad Guys?

Assuming everyone in the Delaware Valley is rooting against the Knicks (this is the noble thing to do, not just as Sixers fans, but as defenders of ethical, clean basketball), I’m sure we’re all on the same page today: Wednesday night’s game sucked. That was bad. The Spurs had it. No team has ever had it more than the Spurs did. San Antonio was up as many as 29 points. I thought it was over. I thought about changing the channel. I haven’t watched the newest episode of Widow’s Bay yet. I was close to throwing it on. But I didn’t. “This is the NBA,” I thought. “No lead is ever safe.” How disappointingly true that turned out to be. I wish I had turned on Widow’s Bay. Seeing the Knicks win that game was truly, deeply unpleasant.
And the unpleasantness didn’t end at the buzzer. Knicks fans kept the awful energy going after the game by throwing an egg at Victor Wembanyama’s head:
What’s left to say about Knicks fans that hasn’t already been said? These guys are not good guys. They’re some real nasty, mean-spirited guys. I don’t like it. How could anyone like it? How could Knicks fans be into this sort of thing? Who would do this? What’s their problem?
The Knicks won the game. Knicks fans should be happy. They should be celebrating. What kind of way is that to express joy? To harass a player that your favorite team just beat – how is that celebratory? How long were you waiting for his bus to arrive? That was so much time wasted, just standing there, hoping for the chance to be mean to some guy for no reason, when you could’ve been out partying and having fun. When did the egg come into the picture? Did you stop home to get the egg? Did you go to a bodega and buy a full dozen eggs just to do this, then have to toss the remaining eleven eggs in the trash? What was gained by throwing an egg at a guy’s head? How could you think that’s a cool thing to do? What is up with these guys?
We’ve been down this road before with Knicks fans. They’ve been acting pretty uncool through these entire playoffs. The egg throw is the worst one, though. I’m not gonna say it’s an assault or anything, or that Wemby could’ve been hurt by the egg. I’m seeing some of that online, which made me think of this and laugh a little:
I’m just saying throwing an egg at Wemby’s head is a very uncool thing to do and I don’t understand it. I don’t get Knicks fans. Many of them seem confused and unwell. I don’t like them. These guys, they’re not my kind of guys.
What’s left to say? I think that’s pretty much it. Spurs in 7.
