I Always Knew the First Local Goal at a World Cup Would Come from a Delco Guy
The United States B team lost 3-2 to Turkey’s A team on Thursday night. It was a meaningless game because we had already won the group, and Turkey was already eliminated, but Media native Auston Trusty scored the first goal:
This is the first goal scored by a Philadelphia-area player in World Cup history. Delco!
There was one asshole on Twitter claiming that Media is not Delco, which is whatever. Inner Delco, outer Delco, real Delco, fake Delco – it matters not. Trusty played youth soccer with Nether United in Wallingford and spent some time at Penncrest High School before joining the Union academy. So I think he’s Delco. Would it be MORE Delco if he was from Clifton Heights and his dad was a raging drunk who went to the Bungalow Inn and Hunt’s Annex Lounge for wings? Yeah, probably, but we’re splitting hairs.
The bottom line is that we got a Delaware County goal at the World Cup. A local kid and Philadelphia Union alumnus scored. There were three Union alumni out there on the field. It was cool. And they played pretty well against Turkey’s starters, who were really going for it. If we had played our big guns we would have run these jokers off the field. Bunch of bums. They needed extra time to squeak out a win. That’s the fact, JACK!
USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. Ridiculous that we have to play both Bosnia AND Herzegovina at the same time! But we relish the underdog role. Nobody likes us, we don’t care.
USA! USA! USA!
