Porter Martone Wearing His Playoffs Hoodie to Flyers Development Camp is a Power Move We All Must Respect

Porter Martone doesn’t need to be at the Flyers development camp. He earned a regular spot on the roster last season, and in the playoffs became a scorer and playmaker the Flyers depended on – he racked up 2 goals and 3 assists in 10 games with a +3 rating, all at just 19 years old. But the young standout reported to Voorhees on Monday anyway, and I think the reason why is pretty clear.
The guy wanted to flex on everyone with his sick playoff hoodie:
This is a power move we all must respect. Without actually having to say anything, by wearing his playoff hoodie to a camp filled with young prospects hoping to make the Flyers’ roster, he’s announcing loudly for all to hear:
“Look, I know many of you are new here, but here’s what you’re gonna have to know: I am the man. I rule. I am young, around the same age as all of you, yes, but nevertheless, I am better at hockey than many guys in the NHL, and of course, it should go without saying, I’m far better than all of you in this room. That being the case, I’m basically the boss around here. Think of me as your office manager. If you want to take lunch, ask me first. If you’re thinking of taking PTO, shoot me an email, and I may or may not approve it. If I’m in a bad mood, you’re gonna want to walk on eggshells around me. That’s just how it is. I’m in the big chair. I’m the guy in the corner office. What I’m saying is, I’m powerful. I’m skilled. I’m talented. I’m a leader. I suggest you all fall in line. I suggest you find your role. I suggest you learn whatever you can from me – because, hey, guess what? I am willing to teach you young pups. Yep. That’s right. Count your lucky stars, fellas, because you hit the jackpot. From this day forth, each of you in this room is now my son, and I am your father. You can call me that, if you like. Father Porter. Papa Porter. Anything like that is okay with me. In summation, I’d like to reiterate one last time: I’ve been to the playoffs, as you can tell by my sweatshirt. And I played very well in the playoffs. I scored some sick goals. I can show you the videos of them on my phone, if you’d like. Come see me later and I will show you the videos on my phone. And just remember: I’m better than you. That is all.”
I genuinely do love the confidence it took to wear that hoodie on the first day of camp. This isn’t something a bad player could get away with. I hope he leans in even more as camp goes along. Get a Flyers 2026 playoffs medal specially made and start wearing it on the ice like a necklace. Get ten massive, heavy playoff rings made and wear them on each finger under your gloves. You’re the boss of development camp, Porter. The sky is the limit. Here’s to hoping the confidence rolls over into next season.
