Derek Hill made a Catch of the Year candidate last week against the Mets’ Juan Soto. By now, we’ve all seen every angle and heard every call… but just in case you haven’t:

Hill joined the MLB Central crew on MLB Network Thursday morning before the Phillies’ series finale against the Pirates and discussed The Catch, Soto’s reaction, a little about the ups-and-downs of his career, and more:

“The next day, I can’t remember what I did, but I made it to first or something and he just came by and he’s like, ‘Hey, don’t let that happen again,’ and I was like ‘Hey, you better hit it to somebody else.'”

Hill was also asked which stop was his favorite besides Philadelphia after playing for multiple teams during his career. He initially mentioned Chicago (White Sox), but ended up picking Philly anyway.

“I love Chicago. I just love a lot of stadiums with energy. And this year, they were doing some amazing things out there. They’re still doing amazing things out there. And the fans showed up. The clubhouse was rocking and rolling so I gotta go with them, but I don’t think anything matches out here with the Red Sea.”

That’s right.

Hill had made a positive mark already as a Phillie, and if he continues, he can become one of the least likely folk heroes in this city. We’re gonna have to give Dave Dombrowski all the credit in the world for this move if he stays healthy. Now let’s go win a title.
