After being traded to the Sixers on Wednesday evening, Jaylen Brown addressed both Boston and Philly fans in a farewell post on Thursday afternoon:

First and foremost, thank you to the Most High, even in the midst of adversity. I’m here with gratitude.

I’m still processing how this all went down. I’m excited and disappointed at the same time. I earned my respect from this city. I never asked for shortcuts or special treatment. I simply showed up every day, put my head down, and accepted every challenge.

The relationships I built here, the battles we fought together, the championship we brought to this city, and the connection I shared with the fans, I’ll carry on with me.

Saying goodbye isn’t easy when you’ve invested your heart into something.

I’m big on respect and actions speak louder than words. To the people of Boston, thank you. To the community I built here I love you, and to the shiftaz we are locked in for life

As one chapter closes, another begins.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the opportunity to join Philadelphia. Every city has its own identity, its own passion, and its own expectation. I respect that, and I’m looking forward to earning that respect the only way I know how.. through the work.

Philly – throw the ball up let’s get it!

Guy seems pissed! Not that I can blame him. Jaylen Brown did work pretty damn hard for the Celtics. He improved every year since coming into the league. His averages steadily increased across the board. He became an All-NBA player. He won the Celtics a title. He was a Finals MVP. And in the end, what did he get? Told over and over again that it was Jayson Tatum’s team. Picked apart by Boston’s analytics-driven front office. Made fun of for going bald. And finally sent out in a trade that, from the sounds of it, even he was shocked by. It’s a damn shame…

But Philadelphia is here for you, Jaylen. We would never do any of those things. I have never said anything about your hair situation. This is a clean slate for all of us.

Also, as a Sixers fan, you gotta think it’s a good thing that he’s this mad. One of the best players in the NBA, a guy who just finished sixth in MVP voting last year, is going into next season with an absolutely massive chip on his shoulder, and he’ll be doing it in a Sixers uniform. I got a strong hunch we’re gonna see some very good Jaylen basketball next year. He’s a man on a mission. He’s going to bury the Celtics when he sees them. He might drop 70 points on them. He might square up with Joe Mazzulla. He might put Lucky the Leprechaun in a rear-naked choke. He might dunk on Jayson Tatum so hard that Deuce never looks at his father the same way again. Got a good feeling about this. Gonna be good.

Welcome home, Jaylen… Throw the ball up… Let’s get it… Yes…
