Now-Fired Miguel Herrera Apologizes for Definitely Punching a Journalist at PHL

On Monday morning, right after winning the CONCACAF World Cup, Mexico head coach Miguel Herrera celebrated by punching a journalist in the throat at the Philadelphia airport. He was fired yesterday, and today, said he totally gets it:
“I want to publicly apologize to the fans, the coaching staff, players, Mexico Football Federation and the media for my behavior in the regretful incident that I had with a commentator. I understand that this is not an attitude becoming of a Mexico national team coach, despite all the criticism and taunts against myself and my family.
It makes me very sad to be leaving my position as national team coach due to this regrettable cause, especially because the results in the line of the game have been, for the most part, positive within the goals we set. I will be taking advantage of this time to enjoy my family, rest a bit and afterward, I will return as the same person and you will have in me, as always, an open door.”
It makes total sense, but I was really hoping they wouldn’t fire Herrera for this. You can go around throat chopping everyone in sight like you’re Liam Neeson in Taken, but tell me you don’t want the neck-puncher to coach your team.
