So I don’t think we’re talking enough about Lane Johnson’s suspension hastening the Eagles’ regression to mediocrity. But Lane Johnson would like to remind you that he exists, as he has filed claims against the NFL and NFLPA with the National Labor Relations Board over his 10-game suspension for using a PED.

From Philly Mag:

Lane Johnson filed unfair labor practice charges against the NFL and NFL Players Association, the MMQB’s Albert Breer reported. Johnson’s complaint, which was filed with the Department of Labor under the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, stems from the 10-game suspension he is currently serving for his second failed drug test.

During his October appeal hearing, Johnson’s team debated the league about testing procedure. However, in his most recent public comments after the Eagles’ loss to the Lions, he declined to further specify what the disagreement was about. Breer told 97.5 The Fanatic on Tuesday evening that Johnson feels “he wasn’t given due process.” An NFLPA spokeman declined comment, while Johnson, an NFL spokesman, and a Philadelphia Eagles spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

By all accounts, it will be difficult for anything to come of this, at least in time for Johnson to cut short his 10-game suspension. But I have to imagine that if he’s taking it this far, Johnson truly believes he did everything he could to check and make sure he wasn’t taking something he shouldn’t. Of course, though filing these claims may do little for his suspension, there’s still that nagging issue of the $4 million he lost and the $25 million that’s no longer guaranteed as a result of his failed test. So, yeah, he may have a few reasons for pursing this.
