Not going to cover the events in Boston on the site unless there’s an otherwise compelling reason related to our usual content. This would qualify.

Jonathan Papelbon spoke to Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News today— he used to live right above where the explosion occurred:

“I used to live right above where one of the bombs went off,” for current Phillies closer and former Red Sox closer said a little while later. “It’s kind of surreal. I don’t know man, it’s crazy. It’s hard to even think about…. It’s sad, man.”

“Patriot’s Day is a big thing is Boston,” Papelbon said. “Sox play at 11 o’clock. It’s all ruined. Families are ruined, lives are ruined. For what? It’s just sad.”

“I’m looking at it right now and I’m like, damn I used to live right there,” said Papelbon, who still knows people that live in the building. “I can’t get in touch with anyone right now. It’s hard to get in touch with anybody there right now.”

Papelbon sold a condo a few blocks away for $2.8 million last April. It sounds like he had lived even closer to the explosion at one point.
