Those hoping to watch Chase Utley have one more brilliant flash of postseason glory aren’t going to like this. The Dodgers released their postseason roster this afternoon and Utley isn’t on it:

Utley has a .213 batting average and .610 OPS over 187 plate appearances this season, so his omission probably shouldn’t come as much of a shock, but it’s Chase Utley we’re talking about here. The man, yes? I figured his 68 games of postseason experience and flair for the dramatic would’ve been enough to justify his roster spot. Guess not.
The Dodgers will instead go with a 12-man pitching staff that includes Ryan Madson when they open up their series with the Braves tonight in Los Angeles. It remains possible that Utley could be added to the team’s NLCS or World Series roster should the Dodgers advance, but today’s news doesn’t bode well for such a development, so it’s quite possible that he has played his last game as a Major League Baseball player.
Never forget.
The #Phillies lost the 2009 World Series, but you could make a case Chase Utley should have won the MVP anyway. Utley tied Reggie Jackson with five home runs in a single World Series, including three off of CC Sabathia, one of the era's five best starters. pic.twitter.com/XJR3XkgMJE
