We had heard about this earlier in the year, but now it’s ready to be unveiled on Sunday: the Eagles’ new Wifi network at The Linc.

From CITEworld:

For the 2013 season, a major upgrade was definitely needed, said Smolenski. So the Eagles decided earlier this year to boost the stadium’s Wi-Fi capabilities with an enhanced system that would allow some 40,000 simultaneous users at once, making it easier and more reliable for fans to share their game-time emotions with their friends and family members who aren’t at the game.

The deployment kicked off in April 2013 and was completed in July, followed by testing that has continued through two Eagles home pre-season games in August with some 50,000 fans in attendance, said Smolenski.

The new Wi-Fi system, using the network name FreeEAGLESWiFi, is set to go live at the Eagles’ home opener on Sept. 15 against the San Diego Chargers, with Eagles fans getting the chance to use the system to its fullest, said Smolenski. The system will be in place for all of the Eagles’ eight home games, and for post-season games if they should occur.

The team already has Eagles smartphone apps for fans, which are also updated this season with new features, such as the availability of the NFL Red Zone channel and new camera angles and more, said Smolenski. “We will continue to see what else we can do and provide through those apps,” he said.

The NFL RedZone* addition, making it free to those in attendance, is awesome… if it can handle Scott Hanson’s load.

You can grab the mobile app here.

*Subscribed to it for the first time ever. Holy shit. The only thing better than seven straight hours of commercial free, nonstop football is Hanson’s pure disdain for the commercial break. Actual quote from Sunday: “Uh, they’re playing the commercial music. That makes us break out in hives here. Let’s get out of that.” How have I been missing this?
