Analyzing the Democratic Presidential and VP Candidates Based on Their Sports Allegiances

In case you are living under a rock, or don’t have internet or television, which might be the same thing, Joe Biden is dropping out of the Presidential race:
My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best… pic.twitter.com/x8DnvuImJV

Biden is a Philly sports fan. Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and there’s a possibility that he knows the Flyers exist. He also showed up to the Philadelphia Union’s first-ever home game in 2010, when he was Vice President, and it caused a security shit show that resulted in people not even getting into their seats until the first half was almost over.
With Biden out, here are some of the candidates and their sports allegiances:
- Kamala Harris: She’s from California. I found an article saying that she is indeed a San Francisco sports fan, so Giants, Niners, and Warriors. Her husband, Doug Emhoff, is a Dodgers fan, so automatic disqualification for both.
- Josh Shapiro: Montco guy. Huge Philly sports fan, diehard Sixers supporter, used to go to Wendy’s to get his free Frosty.
- Gretchen Whitmer: Michigan State Spartan and Detroit sports fan. Got booed at the NFL Draft.
- Gavin Newsom: Guy is a Raiders fan? I had no clue. Better than the Niners I’d say. He’s also a baseball diehard and actually launching a podcast with Marshawn Lynch.
- Joe Manchin: A West Virginia Mountaineer, so obviously he would make a great President. “In my first 100 days, I will demote Marshall to FBS! Then we’ll build the wall and Virginia Tech and Pitt will pay for it.”
- Andy Beshear: Guy is from Louisville but went to high school in Lexington and college at Vandy and UVA. I can’t find anything definitive, but assuming he supports the local basketball teams, that’s fine.
- Wes Moore: There’s video of the Maryland governor shotgunning beers with Ravens fans. Seems like a pretty chill dude. He actually went to Valley Forge Military Academy up here in the PA suburbs.
- J.B. Pritzker: Illinois Governor. Seems as though the Cubs are #1, but he’s also a Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls fan.
- Amy Klobuchar: A Minnesota Vikings fan. Would love to get her thoughts on the 2018 NFC Championship Game.
- Pete Buttigieg: Notre Dame fan. The only thing he should be President of is Northeast Philly and bad calf tattoos.
- Roy Cooper: He’s a North Carolina Tar Heel and big Carolina Hurricanes fan. No issues there.
- Jared Polis: Dude’s from Colorado but actually went to Princeton, which has always been a weird affiliation here. We do have Princeton readers, but they’re a Penn rival, so we don’t write about them much, if it all. Seems like Polis’ favorite team is the Rockies, then the Broncos.
Obviously Shapiro is the only choice if we want to keep the streak of Philly sports fans in the White House alive. Not an endorsement though, just stating a fact. If Kamala is a Niners fan, then she supports Brock Purdy by default, so she can go “straight to hell,” as Maxine Waters once said. The rest of the candidates seem somewhat innocuous. Wes Moore appears to be a cool dude. Cooper is the only Hurricanes fan I know.
