Hunter Pence Brought His Weighted Doughnut to the Plate

I probably spent more time than was necessary trying to determine the proper spelling of “doughnut” here. As it turns out, both spellings are correct, but since Wikipedia refers to these as a baseball doughnuts, we’ll go with that version. Of course, as the Rockies’ broadcast crew pointed out, this product is actually called a “hitting jacket.” I still like doughnut better.
Anyway, let’s get to this buried lede…
In the 10th inning of last night’s game, after the Phillies had pulled off their late-innings heist, Hunter Pence strolled to the plate. With him he brought his helmet, his bat, and… his weighted doughnut. Teammates quickly yelled out for him to take it off, which he did.
First coffee, now donuts? Someone is hungry. Good game, Hunter. Let's go eat.
