As an Eagles Fanbase, We’ve Got To Work on Not Taking A.J. Brown’s Troll Bait

The Eagles traded A.J. Brown to the Patriots on June 1st, but somehow, some way, he keeps finding his way into Philadelphia news:

A lot of Philly folks online saw this and got defensive, annoyed, enraged, aggressive, charged up, confused, volatile, hostile, scrappy, bitter, testy, and more:

Here’s my big takeaway from this story, and pretty much every A.J. story that’s come out over the last few weeks: A.J. Brown is a weird guy. He likes to stir the pot. He likes attention. He seems to enjoy conflict and beefing with people and drama. This isn’t new for a receiver, of course. Receivers have been drawn to this sort of stuff for one thousand years. So what’s the solution? What can we do to make this madness end?

Eagles fans must stop reacting. It’s the only way forward. We know this won’t be the last time A.J. trolls us. He’ll be back. He’ll never stop… And I’m of the opinion that the best thing we can do is ignore it, and eventually, hopefully, the trolling will subside. And don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying this will be easy. A.J. is truly excellent at being a troll man. He’s been trolling Birds fans and players alike since the trade went down a little less than two weeks ago. The rug interview. The photoshopped Patriots pictures. Saying he leaked stories while he was on the Eagles to motivate the team. And now this — not just claiming he’s the best player in franchise history, but writing it on the wall of the Birds’ hallowed halls…

To be clear, I’m not judging anyone for getting upset by all of this. That’s the normal, natural reaction. It’s happening to me right now. My hands are shaking with rage as I type this… but I see that with A.J., our anger solves nothing. The wisest path forward is indifference.

I say we all let this weird guy do and say all the weird stuff he wants. If he actually thinks he’s the greatest Eagle ever, who cares? He’s a weird guy. He probably thinks all kinds of weird, incorrect stuff. All we can do is keep it moving, and, crucially, stop letting A.J. Brown write on the walls of the Eagles’ facilities. Just the once was enough. No more.
