Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders called out 10 NFL teams who didn’t show up to their Pro Day this year, Eagles included:

Jackson State’s Pro Day fell on the same day as Iowa, Pitt, Nevada, Northern Iowa, and Toledo. Iowa, Pitt, and Nevada all have 1st round projected picks or top QB prospects. We know the Eagles took Kenny Pickett out to dinner. Since Deion has taken the head coaching job at Jackson State he’s been at the forefront of getting HBCUs more publicity. He even snatched the #1 DB from Florida State this year. He mentioned their spring game is going to be televised and wants the NFL to invite one player from each HBCU team to the NFL Draft.

So should the Eagles have been there? According to Pro Football Network, Jackson State has three of the top 10 HBCU draft prospects: James Houston (Edge/DE), Al Young (CB), and CJ Holmes (CB). All positions that the Eagles need to fill. Houston had 16.5 sacks last season. They are projected to all be Day 3 picks. Listen though, draft prep is always on razor thin margins. NFL teams have scouts who are in charge of different regions of the country. We don’t know why the Eagles choose to send their scouts here or there. They all have a limited amount of time to be everywhere, have tape on these guys, and no HBCU players were taken in the 2021 draft. It’s all about maximizing efficiency leading up to draft day.

But as Deion said, those teams will be at Ole Miss (March 22nd) and Mississippi State (March 23rd). Would it have killed them to send someone to Jackson State? Maybe. Maybe not. If the Eagles aren’t interested in anyone from Jackson State, why go? Would they just be wasting their time and virtue signaling? It’s like the Giants having Brian Daboll already selected as a coach and still interviewing Brian Flores only to check a box. I know Deion is playing the underdog, but anyone who follows Jackson State knows they are no underdog. You just got the #1 overall recruit in the nation. People would be stupid to not know the program is on the rise. Build it. They will come.
