Earlier this month, we told you about the rival banners that Eagles fans and Cowboys fans were planning on flying over their respective camps. The Cowboys’ banner flew over the Linc during the National Anthem preceding open practice on a day when the team was honoring the armed forces.

Eagles fan EROCK, who had started the Eagles banner’s GoFundMe campaign, then moved forward with his plan, but tragedy struck. Though it was originally reported that the plane carrying the Eagles banner crashed, it was another plane at the same landing strip, and the “We Got DeMarco :)” banner couldn’t take flight. But that didn’t matter anymore. I’ll let EROCK’s GoFundMe update take it from here:

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause. I spoke with the pilot’s wife last week, arrangements were made, and now some relief (and much needed) is going to this family during this difficult time. The total amount, regardless or gofundme fees, has been sent to the family. His wife had no idea who I was, who we were, or the story behind the “banner wars”…..but in one of the lighter moments during our conversation she interrupted me and said “Wait…I thought Eagles and Cowboys fans hated each other”. While hate is a strong word (yet incredibly accurate) we’re all human, and I think it showed in this very brief but perfect example.

Both Eagles and Cowboys fans used the money raised from their banner fundraisers to help support the family of the now-deceased pilot. It’s really an amazing sign that while we’re rivals/enemies/whatever, we’re all people, and we recognize when others need help. Stay tuned for the first Eagles/Cowboys fan fight of the year though, because that will get coverage.
