If you missed it on Thursday night because you live under a rock and/or you are a hermit, the Eagles jumped three spots to #20 to grab USC receiver Makai Lemon.

In the process, they leapfrogged the hometown Steelers, who were on the phone with Lemon and expecting to draft him at #21. When Howie Roseman stole their lunch money and gave them a swirlie, they pivoted to ASU tackle Max Iheanachor and the reaction was not positive:

There’s nothing wrong with adding to the offensive line in the first two rounds. Just ask the Eagles, who built their Super Bowl teams on the strength of trench play, with guys like Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, and Lane Johnson going in either the 1st or the 2nd. Iheanachor is an athletic kid with a lot of upside and maybe he ends up playing tackle out there for a long time, but yes, it is a relatively boring pick.

You see in these tweets that the Yinzers wanted a splash. They wanted a slam dunk. Their offense has been complete butt for several seasons now, with geriatric Aaron Rodgers last year throwing to D.K. Metcalf, Kenny Gainwell, and Pat Freiermuth. They had one of the worst receiving corps in football, so the idea coming into this draft was that they were going to add some exciting weapons, craft a nice story like landing Makai Lemon in their own backyard, and instead they ended up with a project tackle.

The thing about the NFL is that it’s a cut throat business. Howie Roseman is aggressive. He sees a guy he likes, he goes up and gets him. The Eagles have had a defined vision and built a strong culture over the years while the Steelers just sort of waddle along here without a franchise quarterback and now without a real identity. That’s one of the best franchises in NFL history but they don’t seem to have much direction or attitude these days. Maybe that’s why they haven’t won a playoff game since Obama’s second term.

Pittsburgh has the 53rd pick Friday night and they should try to get Denzel Boston or Germie Bernard, who may or may not be off the board by then. We shall see!

But boy it’s been a rough week for the Yinzers. The Flyers are about to put the final nail in Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby’s careers, and Howie Roseman is slapping around the Steelers’ front office. Maybe Pittsburgh will win a playoff series this decade, but it’s not looking likely.

Go Birds! Flyers in 4.
