The Philadelphia Flyers kick off the NHL’s Frozen Frenzy against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.

This puck drop was moved up an hour from the normal weekday start time to accommodate a 16-game slate with staggered starts between 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

The Flyers are a very slight favorite to earn their first home win of the season against a Washington team they will see in D.C. on Wednesday night as well.

Matvei Michkov and Co. are a -125 favorite on the money line across most sportsbooks. The Caps are a +105 underdog and the over/under sits at 5.5.

The Flyers need to show more juice on Tuesday night after their home opener loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. The good news is that the Caps are much closer to the Flyers’ actual talent level than Vancouver is.

Washington exceeded any preseason expectations by reeling off three straight wins over the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and New Jersey Devils, all of whom are possible playoff teams.

The Caps surprisingly scored at least three goals in every game so far despite only one of those tallies coming from Alex Ovechkin, who is chasing Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring record this season.

The Flyers started the season with 3+ goals in four straight games, but then laid an egg at home on Saturday night.

Both teams should be able to create a healthy amount of scoring chances over the 60 minutes. The Flyers average 30.4 shots per game and give up 30 shots per game, while Washington sits at 29.3 shots per game and 28.5 shots against per contest.

A year ago, two of the three regular-season matchups went over the 5.5 goal mark. Owen Tippett, Bobby Brink, Dylan Strome, and Ovechkin all had multiple goals in the head-to-head series.

Tippett leads the Flyers in shots on goal, but he hasn’t scored yet this season. At minimum, you should take the over on Tippett’s shots on goal prop of 3.5. He has 13 SOGs in the last three games.

Morgan Frost, Travis Konecny, and Travis Sanheim all had over four shot attempts on Saturday. Frost has had at least 2 SOG in every game, Konecny produced 14 of his 15 SOGs in the first three games, and Sanheim is coming off a 5 SOG outing against Vancouver.

If you want to do a Flyers-centric Same Game Parlay, I would go with Tippett 4+ SOG, Konecny 3+ SOG, and Frost 2+ SOG on FanDuel for +267. FanDuel has a 25% profit boost available for SGPs of +100 or longer, so that may be the way to go with PA betting promos and NJ sportsbook promos.

If you include Washington players, you could add Ovechkin and Strome in multiple ways. A 2+ SOG SGP including Ovechkin, Strome, Tippett, Konecny, and Frost gets you to +226 before the boost at FD.

If you want a long shot for the boost, play Tippett 4+ SOG, Ovechkin and Konecny 3+ SOG, and Frost and Strome 2+ SOG that gets you to over +800 before applying the boost.
