The Jamie Drysdale Deal is Done, and it’s a Good One
Danny B checking off boxes:
This is less money than Simon Nemec and Pavel Mintyukov, who just got five years each at $36 million. That’s $7.2 million AAV. Drysdale’s contract comes in one year shorter in term, but the AAV is $6.5 million, which is the same number that Dmitry Orlov, Torey Krug, and Justin Faulk are currently making. It’s a totally reasonable contract.
It’s also kind of funny because these dweebs on the internet were saying that the Flyers handing that offer sheet to Leo Carlsson was going to force them into an overpay for Drysdale and Trevor Zegras, which didn’t materialize. They got Zegras for $9.1 million AAV and Drysdale for $6.5 million. Both contracts are a little shorter, but give the team and player flexibility.
While the Ducks ended up matching on Carlsson, the Flyers have handled their in-hoise business this offseason. They extended Dan Vladar, Tyson Foerster, Zegras, and Drysdale. They’ll get a Nikita Grebenkin deal done. They haven’t hit the home run just yet, but they’ve done what they need to do in the meantime.
