Sixers vs. Celtics Betting Odds, Picks, Prediction (February 15, 2022)

On Tuesday night, the Sixers will host the Boston Celtics at the Wells Fargo Center. The Sixers have won two in a row, seven of their last ten, and are fourth in the Eastern Conference at 34-22. The Celtics are just two games behind the Sixers at 33-25 after having won their last eight games in a row.
Let’s get into our Sixers vs. Celtics betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this February 15, 2022 matchup.

Sixers vs. Celtics Betting Pick (February 15, 2022)
It’s difficult to wrap your head around sometimes, but the first Process season was the 2013-2014 season. The Sixers went 19-63. Thaddeus Young was the team’s best player. From that point on, for the past eight-plus seasons, the mantra has been that good things come to those who wait. It’s true that the past four seasons brought playoff runs. It’s also true that none of them lasted longer than the second round. So Sixers fans are still waiting for the huge payoff that the Process promised.
In that vein, it is wildly unsurprising that, having finally rid themselves of Ben Simmons and his dubious claims of psychological instability, Sixers fans only got to celebrate the arrival of James Harden for about 36 hours before word began to seep out that Harden a. wasn’t ready to play, and b. might not be ready to play for a while. Presently, Harden is out at least through the All-Star Break. This means he is out tonight against the Celtics and, perhaps sadder, against the Milwaukee Bucks in two nights.
There is some wisdom in what the Sixers are doing with Harden here. The All-Star Game is set for Sunday night, and the Sixers then have almost a full week off before returning to action on February 25 in Minnesota. That’s another full week and a half for Harden to get right, and here are the games that follow that Timberwolves contest: home and home against the Knicks, home against Cleveland, away at Miami, home to Chicago… and home to the Brooklyn Nets on March 10. Those are some high stakes games with serious playoff implications. The Sixers will need to be at full strength for that stretch
So for Sixers fans, again, it’s time to wait. Get well soon, James. We’re all counting on you.

CLAIM OFFERThis is a bad spot for the Sixers, as the line indicates. The Celtics are white hot. The Sixers have a bright future ahead with James Harden (hopefully), but their present is being conducted without Seth Curry and Andre Drummond, two significant pieces to the record the Sixers accrued to this point. We don’t think the Sixers will win this game, but if they do, they’ll have to grind it out. The Celtics have held their opponents under 100 points in eight of their last 11 games.

Caesars Sportsbook is offering this as an “NBA Tuesday Super Boost” with a maximum wager of $25. They’re smart to cap it, because it’s probably going to hit. Embiid is averaging 29.5 points per game and hasn’t scored fewer than 25 points since December 23, 2021. Tatum is the potential weak link here, as he is averaging “only” 25.7 points per game and tends to be feast or famine. At these odds, though, it’s worth taking a chance on Tatum pulling his weight here.

Al Horford Over 8.5 Points (-125, DraftKings Sportsbook)

DraftKings States: AZ, CO, CT, DC, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OR, PA, TN, VT, VA, WV, WY
GET BONUSThis pick isn’t so much a pro-Al Horford pick as it is an anti-Sixers backup bigs pick. Horford is averaging 8.8 points over his last eight games, and tonight, with Andre Drummond no longer manning the middle when Embiid sits, Horford will get plenty of quality looks against the likes of Paul Reed and Charles Bassey. Hence the -125 here.

Maxey will still be a starter on this team once Harden joins the active roster, but his touches are almost certainly going to be reduced along with his minutes. Maxey has to know this, so in a game like this one where he projects to play his “normal” amount of minutes, he needs to get his shots up while he can.

As noted above, this isn’t a good spot for the Sixers. Aside from all of the difficult games coming up and Harden’s uncertain status, this is the last game of a four-game homestead that has had the Sixers here for a solid week. The first game back off the road and the last game at home before leaving are often marked by distractions. We’re picking the Celtics here.
