Calum Scott is “Standing By” in Case the Slumping Phillies Need to Dust Off “Dancing on My Own”

Can’t believe it’s come down to this, but after a putrid atrocity of a loss on Tuesday night, we might have to consider Mr. Scott’s offer:

The Phillies lost 7-6 to the Yankees in 12 innings. Bryson Stott went to plate with bases loaded and a chance to win it and swung at the first damn pitch. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and have now lost three in a row. They’re 3-8 since the break and went into the All-Star Game after losing a home series to the Oakland A’s. Individually, Bryce Harper and Trea Turner are only hitting two things right now – jack and shit. Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos contributed Tuesday night donuts and this wouldn’t have been a game if not for Austin Hays and his four RBI.
As a reminder, the Phillies initially tried to retire Dancing on My Own last year, but brought it back in June during a three-game home series against the Nats. They were 44-39 at that point and finished 90-72. After the NLCS, DOMO was then re-retired because it was deemed a second-place song and the Phils were looking to turn the page and leave it in the past. If they had to dust it off and re-unretire it, would that spell panic? I don’t think you can do it. There’s no going back. No gimmicks, no nonsense, just win some games. “It’s too much horseshit,” as Peter Laviolette once famously said. The Phils need to fuckin figure it out, because you give these other loser teams a glimmer of hope and the next thing you know your 7.5 game division lead becomes 6.5, 5.5, whatever.
The other reason we can’t bring back Dancing on My Own is because it sucks.
