Johan Rojas is Done for the Season

Johan Rojas will undergo season-ending surgery after imaging revealed a UCL tear in his right elbow, the Phillies announced:
“Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas recently felt right medial elbow discomfort while ramping up baseball activities in preparation to return from his suspension. Evaluation and imaging revealed an ulnar collateral ligament tear that will require surgical repair with internal brace. The surgery will be scheduled in the next couple of weeks with the plan for Rojas to be ready to participate at spring training in 2027.”
“Season-ending surgery” is a loose term, considering Rojas’ season never technically started. Rojas was suspended 80 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs back in the beginning of March.
Rojas was eligible to return to the Phillies on June 25th, and could’ve been a bench option in a fairly thin outfield. Steward Berroa is currently manning the “fourth outfielder” role on the roster, with Edmundo Sosa getting some time in left field against left-handed pitching.
The Phillies, once again, will need to find a right-handed bat at the trade deadline, and that bat could potentially be an outfielder. Rojas was ineligible for the postseason once he returned, but could’ve been used as depth in the remaining 82 games of the season.
