Excellent, proactive move by Rube– re-signing Grady Sizemore to a one-year deal worth $2 million last October. How has that worked out? Well, the Phillies released Sizemore yesterday after he was optioned to AAA last week. Instead, they’ll favor converted infielder Cody Asche in the outfield. Asche has been using the larger gloves for all of, what, a couple of weeks now?

So how useless was Sizemore? Ryan Lawrence on the saddicals:

Sizemore, who split time in rightfield with fellow veteran Jeff Francoeur the first two months, hit .245 with a .584 OPS in 39 games this season. Since joining the team last July, Sizemore hit .250 with a .657 OPS and three home runs in 99 games.

Before last year, Sizemore hadn’t played a major league game since 2011.

Sizemore’s slugging percentage in about 100 at-bats was a truly pathetic .296.

Known idiot Ryne Sandberg went on to say “it had nothing to do with performance.”

I know it’s crazy, but it turns out that creating a reunion squad of the 2007 All-Stars no longer works in 2015. Who knew?!
