This is… this is something else:

To do a little bit a scene setting, this was a 9-9 ballgame in the top of the sixth. The Mets were at home, playing in front of a reported 32,734 people, which feels high. No way there were 30,000 people in the building. But the Mutts were up 9-4 at one point and went on to lose 16-12, falling to 38-54 on the season. They’re 15 games behind the Braves and 13 behind the Phillies in the NL East.

So when the team is bad, there is nothing to talk about. You just sort of wing it. That Mets crew is famous for going off the rails and talking about anything that comes to mind, but this is new territory. I am pretty sure they have never talked about the end of the Hernandez bloodline. The end of his lineage:

“There’s no passing down. We’re done. My brother and I are done… it just seems like a terrible waste (awkward pause followed by awkward laughter).”

God damn. This is rough. You feel for the guy, while at the same realizing that the Mets players are to blame.

This is disgraceful on their part. They are so bad this year that they have given the broadcasters nothing to talk about. If they could actually hit a baseball or field a routine ground ball, Keith Hernandez would be happy instead of morose. Gleeful instead of forlorn. Instead, they have played such piss-poor baseball that this man is now talking about highly personal and despondent family matters. Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and their ilk are responsible for this.

We can never forgive the Mets for what they’ve done to Keith Hernandez:
