Ford Maverick Hybrids are Replacing the Classic Wildwood Tram Cars

“Watch the Ford Maverick hybrid please,” because it seems as though the old school Wildwood tram cars are going the way of the Dodo Bird and Passenger Pigeon:

The video above was shared to the “Wildwood Boardwalk” Facebook and IG pages and is from Joey Contino, a digital guy who reports on a lot of Jersey shore stuff.
Otherwise, there isn’t much information out there from what I can glean. It seems as though people are seeing these trucks on the boardwalk during test runs and are posting on social and Reddit and reacting. The only story from a media outlet comes from Townsquare’s 107.3 Cat County down the shore, which says these trucks are going into service starting this Saturday, May 10th. The assorted chatter makes it seem like the classic tram cars are just old as hell and difficult to service and maintenance. Hard to find parts 70 years later and all of that, but we’ll see if we can confirm that’s the main reason for the change.
My first thought is that hopefully nobody gets run over by one of these things on the boardwalk. They are compact pickups and slightly smaller than Ford Rangers. Second thought is that this won’t be well received because we are parochial creatures of habit and we don’t like change. We want Wildwood and Sea Isle and Avalon to look and feel the same way they did 30, 40, 50 years ago.
