Claude Giroux has been on a bit of a media tour talking about tonight’s NHL Awards, the event obsessed over by hardcore hockey nuts and mostly glossed over by the rest of the world.

There is one notable honor that will be announced at the awards, though: the winner of the NHL 13 cover vote. It’s between G and Pekka Rinne (yeah, whom?), a goalie for the Nashville Predators.

The event is in Las Vegas, which just so happens to be where – we think – the Stanley Cup still is right now. And that means G may be tempted to party with Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, who, in case you haven’t heard, won that trophy last week.

On 97.5 The Fanatic, Mike Missanelli asked Giroux if he would party with, around, or in the general vicinity of the Cup. His answer was favorable:

“If I see the Cup, I’m walking away. 100%. I want to earn the right to party with the Cup.”

Well played.

G told Missanelli that he was flying to Canada after the show to play in Danny Briere’s golf tournament, so it doesn’t sound like he’ll be tempted tonight. And while he seemingly partied in Vegas last night, a thorough (trust me) interwebtual search didn’t turn up any pics of him with Richards and Carter and or the trophy they just won, the Stanley Cup.
