A Compendium of Nelson Agholor’s Drops

So a few things jump out here:

  1. Many of the egregious drops have occurred in recent weeks. Agholor has gotten progressively worse, which tells me this is somewhat of a confidence thing.
  2. Many of these are poorly thrown balls, but Agholor never comes up with the tough catch. That’s inexcuasable for a first round pick. Hell, cornerbacks are able to make plays on some of these balls. And this represents a reasonable portion of Agholor’s targets. It’s not like he’s filling up the stat sheet otherwise. If he was averaging 6-7 catches per game, then you could excuse some of these. But he’s not.
  3. Say nothing of the fact that Agholor rarely gets open. When he does, he often combines it with a terrible drop, which always seems to come at the worst time and exaggerates the “drop” factor.
  4. He runs lousy routes. Even on some of these plays where he’s pseudo open, he turns tough, catchable balls into laughable overthrows. Look at some of the end zone fades– watch how many receivers around the NFL will make plays on balls like that. When Agholor does, it’s often punched out of his hands.

What’s also important to note is that not seen here is him stepping out of bounds on a catch, negating a Zach Ertz touchdown, and other idiocy. What’s here isn’t, in and of itself, a case for Agholor to get cut, but the problem is there is so little else that he does right to make up for the slop in the video.
