On the Cowboys Knowing Eagles' Plays
Settle down, sharks. Settle down!
Josh Huff said the Cowboys were calling out some of the Eagles’ plays on the sidelines— ergo they knew what was coming. But credit to Les Bowen (really) for putting them into proper context by including a follow-up from everyman Jason Kelce:
“That’s not anything new,” Kelce said, when asked about Huff’s contention. “We try not to run a lot of plays, we try to major in the ones that we do. That’s been our MO since (Kelly has) been here, and it’s been something we’ve done very effectively . . . If we execute better (against Dallas), I still think we have a good day running the ball.”
“If you’re a good defensive player, you should know it’s one of four or five plays coming at you, based on formation and whatnot, situation,” Kelce said. He said some Eagles plays look identical initially, but are completely different.
One of the beauties of Chip’s offense is that one set has multiple options– sometimes one play has multiple options. Almost by design, defenses will know what’s coming, but they won’t know which option gets ran. That said, no doubt it’s tougher to trick a divisional opponent, whom the Eagles have played three times in seven – SEVEN! – weeks. But jumping off the bridge and thinking Chip a stooge because the Cowboys recognized a few formations is patently ridiculous.
Related: Last week the Eagles ran essentially the same play four times in a row and went 77 yards.
