OH COME ON WHY IS THERE A GIANT TOMATO IN THIS EQUATION?

Mark Eckel reports that, hold on to your blood sugar levels, Andy Reid may be pushing Jeffrey Lurie to hire his offensive coordinator, Dopey Doug Pederson:

Doug Pederson’s name emerged as candidate for the Eagles’ head coaching search, Sunday morning and immediately two independent sources shot it down.

Now a few days later, they’re not so sure.

“I think Andy (Reid) is getting to the owner (Jeffrey Lurie),” one said. “Those two still get along pretty well, which is kind of peculiar on its own. But (Lurie) listens to Andy. They may wait and interview Pederson, and then who knows?”

Another source told Eckel that Pederson is not the top candidate – that might be Adam Gase, who interviewed with the Eagles yesterday but will continue on to Cleveland today – but there is apparently a “comfort level” with Pederson:

GROSS. Of course there’s a comfort level! Like I said, he’s the good girl after the drunken slore. No drama, bows at your alter, the fam will like him. But, unfortunately, he’s incredibly inexperienced and has just recently started calling his own plays. This is the safe hire… if safety is hiring the guy who won’t talk back to you but might not even know how the headset works.

For real, if the Eagles fired a genuine innovator (SHUT UP, HE INNOVATED!) only to replace him with Doug Funny, I… well, I’ll blog angrily about it!
