It’s the start of a big week for the Birds. Minicamp begins today and runs until Thursday.

Each day will begin with Doug Pederson addressing the media at 10:30 AM. After that, the team will have a practice before players will be available for the media.

Things started yesterday. While players were getting their physicals, assistant coaches were made available to the media. Here were some highlights from some of the important names:

New quarterbacks coach Press Taylor, who brought the “Philly Special” play to the team, said he never expected it to be used in the Super Bowl:

“It was awesome,” Taylor said with a smile Monday morning, just over four months since the game. “I don’t think I ever could have imagined it being a 4th-and-2 call in the Super Bowl. I don’t think anybody would have.”

During the Super Bowl, Taylor was upstairs in the coaching booth when he heard the play call come over his headset. Down on the field, it was Nick Foles who approached Doug Pederson with the suggestion “Philly Philly” in one of the most memorable moments from the incredible game.

Taylor tried to downplay the credit he’s received from Pederson and former offensive coordinator Frank Reich for bringing the play to the Eagles. But there he was during the Super Bowl, watching the play he found, get used in an incredibly pivotal moment.

“We were all just kind of holding on, hoping it turned out well,” Taylor said. “And it did. It was a great call. I think, for us, if you’re not the play-caller and you’re not on the field executing, you’re kind of just a fan that happens to know the play being called and knows what to look for when we line up.”

Duce Staley didn’t get the offensive coordinator position. Instead, he was named assistant head coach and he’s perfectly fine with that:

“I feel good about it,” Staley said Monday in his first public comments since the staff changes. “The good thing about it [is] one thing we do as an offense, coaching unit, is we come together and we all game-plan. …We all have our input. Doug would be the first one to tell you that we all just have titles, but when it all boils down, we’re all in the same room together game-planning.”

Defensive backs coach Cory Undlin had this great quote which should makes Birds fans happy:

Nothing like making the Cowboys quit.

Linebackers coach Ken Flajole says Chris Long hasn’t gotten a tattoo of Flajole’s face yet. It was something Long promised if the team won the Super Bowl. Weird, but whatever.

T-minus 86 days until the season opener against Atlanta. That’s when the Eagles will begin their quest for a repeat and anger more people like Colby Covington again.

The Sixers began the post-Colangelo era with pre-draft workouts. Six players, including Lonnie Walker IV and Miles Bridges, participated.

Head coach Brett Brown is leaving all possibilities open when he discussed his draft day strategy. He’ll probably have final say on draft night, which is nine days away.

We still don’t know if Markelle Fultz will play summer league games this summer.

Howard Eskin reported that Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil was going to take a job with the Utah Jazz. O’Neil went after Eskin on Twitter and we had ourselves some Monday night beef.

The Phillies had an off-day yesterday. They’ll take on the Colorado Rockies to start a three-game series at home tonight at 7:05 PM. Aaron Nola will take the mound.

Maybe the team can use the win and their day off to their advantage:

“Coming off the games in Chicago and the two games before [against Milwaukee], you know that really set an little mood in the clubhouse to want go out and beat [the Brewers],” said Eflin, who drove his record to 3-2 with a nine-strikeout, three-hit performance, after winning the lone game in Chicago last week. “Being able to do that and stay with the game plan, and have an all-around great baseball game was huge for us.

“We get to go into an off-day and sleep on this win. That will bring motivation for the next series. You can ask anyone in this clubhouse, they wanted to go and beat the Brewers. We weren’t in here saying, ‘Let’s just go out and play baseball today.’ We played this game with a purpose, and there was a purpose today. I think that’s the mentality that we need every time.

“It’s been a lot of fun surrounding yourself with a bunch of guys who want to win day in and day out. Being able to do that and get over these guys was big.”
