Your Friday Morning Roundup
The god damn bamboo strikes again.
After Jay Bruce told Gabe Kapler he didn’t need a day off and hit a walk-off RBI double Wednesday night, the Phillies had another walk-off against the Mets in a 6-3 win to complete the sweep against one of a few dysfunctional New York sports teams.
It was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Bryce Harper hit a solo home run off Zack Wheeler for the first run of the game. The pitching was very good from both teams. Wheeler went six innings and gave up that one run off two hits with seven strikeouts. Aaron Nola had a no-hitter going through six but eventually went another inning and gave up a hit to go along with 10 strikeouts and a walk.
Then we go to the ninth with Hector Neris trying to make the save. It looked good to start, grounding out Pete Alonso. And then he blew another save. After giving up a single to Michael Conforto, Todd Frazier hit a go-ahead two-run home run to give the Mets the lead. Neris would be pulled after giving up two more singles to Dominic Smith and Wilson Ramos, and the Mets would score one more run when JD Hammer was trying to clean up Neris’ mess.
So now it was Edwin Diaz’s turn to get the save. Like Neris, he sucked. After walking Cesar Hernandez, he faced the Phils’ hottest hitter, Maikel Franco. And…

Just like they drew it up.
So the save was blown. Now Diaz had to keep this game going, and he did by striking out J.T. Realmuto. But he then walked Sean Rodriguez, gave up a single to Scott Kingery, and then finally this to Jean Segura, which did not please Mike Francesa.
They did it.
The Phillies really did it.

You just hate to see that from the Mets.
Now the bamboo travels south to Florida for a weekend set with the Marlins. Vince Velasquez takes on Elieser Hernandez for a 7:10 PM start on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Zach Eflin and Jake Arrieta are also scheduled to pitch.
