Despite being outplayed by the Dodgers for nearly the entire series, the Phillies were able to split their four-game set this week thanks to a 7-6 win.

After losing Wednesday night in a long game due to a weather delay, with the highlight being two good Phillies fans, the two teams had a quick turnaround in South Philly for their series finale. And like they have for every game this series, the Dodgers were leading in the latter portion of the game.

Down two, the Phillies got back-to-back-to-back RBI base hits from Jean Segura, Bryce Harper, and Rhys Hoskins, who brought home two guys. But in the top of the ninth with Hector Neris on the mound for the first time since beaning David Freese on Tuesday, he gave up a two out home run to Alex Verdugo to cut the Phils lead in half. But Justin Turner flied out to the warning track in right field to end the game.

After the final out, Hector Neris let out a little emotion for getting a save, cursing out to the Dodgers’ dugout. Max Muncy had this zinger:

I side with Muncy here because Neris isn’t that good in my opinion. I mentioned this earlier in the week when he nearly blew Tuesday’s win that he never turned that corner after the end of last season. Back up his talk with more than one successful save next time.

The Phillies are across the state in Pittsburgh this weekend against the Pirates. First pitch tonight is at 7:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jake Arrieta takes the mound with Zach Eflin and Vince Velasquez scheduled for the rest of the weekend.

And this just coming in, the Phils have reportedly signed left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly to a deal. It’s better than some of the options they have.
