Last week, after the Eagles lost their first game of the season, the WIP Morning Show woke up from a season-long slumber and wanted to fire defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. They needed an Eagles loss to rev up the fake outrage machine, which had thus far remained in the garage as the result of eight straight wins to begin the season. There was nothing to be angry about, and so the program was suffering.

With the comeback win in Indy on Sunday, Nick Sirianni did his contractually-mandated weekly appearance on Cataldi’s show, and suggested this for a poll:

That was me with the fart noise at the end. Nice dig from Sirianni, though. A very polite way of saying that the WIP Morning Show is a big fat joke. Last week they wanted to shit can Gannon, who was the defensive coordinator of an 8-1 team. Then, yesterday, his unit goes out and concedes an opening drive score before not allowing a touchdown the rest of the way, holding Indy to 99 rushing yards and a 33% third down rate. They conceded six second half points and got the game-winning stop after the Birds went ahead 17-16.

Every gripe from the Indy game should be directed at Sirianni, Shane Steichen, and even Jalen Hurts for questionable decision making prior to the 4th quarter performance. Gannon’s defense won that game. They’ve allowed the 7th-fewest points in the NFL this season, the 2nd-fewest plays of 20+ yards, and the 2nd-fewest opponent scoring drives. Hoagie mouth sports radio listeners need to “get some facts, then come back and see me,” as Jim Calhoun once said.

Anyway, Joe DeCamara takes over in a few months, so we’ll be done with the fake outrage forever. I think…
