Deebo Samuel Talked His Shit and Backed it Up
We give credit to Deebo Samuel, utterly abused the Eagles in a 42-19 win on Sunday night. 116 receiving yards, 22 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns. It was the most yards he’s logged all season long, most touchdowns he’s scored, and probably the best game he’s played since his 2021 Pro Bowl year.
This came after Samuel talked shit all year long, whining and complaining about the NFC Championship Game loss. He claimed the Eagles went to the Super Bowl because San Francisco “played with 10 people.” Then tripled down after calling James Bradberry “trash” and later hung up on Zach Gelb when asked about his comments.
How did the Eagles respond to that? They didn’t. After Christian Elliss blew up Deebo on his first touch, the Birds defense proceeded to put up the resistance of a wet paper bag. They couldn’t tackle, didn’t hit, and got manhandled between the tackles by Christian McCaffrey and that O line. They got cooked in the middle of the field and couldn’t cover anyone or anything. The missed Nicholas Morrow tackle on a six-yard throw turned into a Deebo touchdown and was the cherry on top of a barf sundae:

What’s most pathetic is that Deebo touched the ball seven times from scrimmage all game. Four receptions on four targets, three rushing attempts. 138 divided by seven = 19.7, so they let this guy come in here and torch them for nearly 20 yards per touch on plays that had pretty much nothing in the air yardage department. They got destroyed on YAC and didn’t match San Francisco’s physicality after Kyle Shanahan made a couple of second-quarter adjustments.
So you’ve got this guy who talks mad shit, calls your teammate trash, and you respond by…. allowing him to have his best game of the season? That’s the pitiful part. If you’re playing three games in 13 days, and San Francisco is rested and motivated, so be it. Nobody was caught off guard by this loss, but the way they got totally destroyed on their own field was the disappointment.
But credit to Deebo, for real. These aren’t backhanded compliments. His numbers have been down in 2023, but on Sunday he looked like the player we saw two years ago. He talked his shit and backed it up, while the Eagles folded like a cheap suit and got boat raced on their own field. It takes stones to say the things he did, triple down, and then go out and perform like that.
Deebo Samuel had a 0.1% chance of scoring when he caught the ball on his 48-yard TD.
