Eagles a 2.5-Point Favorite Over Giants in a Meaningless Game with Curious Betting Value
The most meaningless of meaningless games takes place on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles are a 2.5-point favorite over the New York Giants, but who cares, right? Saquon Barkley isn’t going after Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record and Tanner McKee is likely starting at quarterback.
While some of you will ignore the game completely, there’s actually some decent betting value to be found if you search for it.
A scan of NJ betting apps and PA sports betting apps reveals that DraftKings is the only one offering player props, at least as of Friday afternoon. There’s no guarantee any other books will post because of all the reserves involved.
DraftKings is limited to what they have right now, which is only touchdown scorer props.
Will Shipley and Kenneth Gainwell are listed at +145 and +155, respectively. Shipley is expected to be the primary ball carrier on Sunday. I would guess Gainwell maybe plays a series or two, if that, but I certainly wouldn’t bet on his props.
Jahan Dotson is fascinating at +255 to score a touchdown only because he hasn’t done anything notable this season since his preseason trade from Washington. Week 18 would be the perfect week to boost his confidence and score, right? Right?
If that’s not your cup of tea, then Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith are the guys to look at. Smith was a frequent McKee target in preseason. I think it’s important to find reserves who have chemistry with the starting quarterback instead of just saying “X guy is replacing Y player, he will score.”
The other touchdown prop that fascinates me is E.J. Jenkins at +1100. Like Smith, he has preseason reps with McKee, and oh by the way, he had a red-zone target in Week 17.
Again, this is Week 18, and we have no clue if McKee will be a functional quarterback against a first-team defense, but the Giants have been gashed all season and Smith and Jenkins come with built-in chemistry.
As for the Giants, they blew their chances of landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft last week, so there’s no chance they fall down easily on Sunday.
After all, guys are playing for roster spots and contracts elsewhere. The last thing they care about is where the Giants pick, especially Drew Lock.
Lock’s had over 200 passing yards in each of his last three games. His passing-yard prop sits at over/under 191.5. A bulk of his final passing-yard total will go to Malik Nabers, whose props sit at over/under 6.5 receptions and 74.5 receiving yards.
Initially, you’d think to not bet Nabers against the Eagles’ secondary, but then again, we don’t know who will be on the field for the defense.
Who knows how Sunday will actually play out, and there’s so much variance involved in betting these games, but those are at least a few props you can sprinkle while enjoying a stress-free Sunday.
