The Odds and Trends for La Salle vs. St. Joe's, Tulsa vs. Temple, Nova vs. UConn
Break out your multiple screens, we’ve got a cornucopia of Philadelphia-area college hoops to watch tonight.
La Salle vs. St. Joe’s is the main attraction in the Atlantic 10. Temple, who should still be in the A-10, plays during the same window against Tulsa in the AAC.
And then Villanova plays UConn in the Big East tournament nightcap at MSG.
La Salle vs. St. Joe’s (-12.5) (O/U: 143.5) (7:30 p.m. ET)
La Salle has a winning streak!
That’s something the Explorers haven’t been able to say since mid-January.
Fran Dunphy’s team beat St. Joe’s in the regular-season finale and then knocked out UMass in the A-10 first round on Wednesday.
St. Joe’s is the No. 6 seed and was a favorite of 9.5 and 11.5 points for the two regular-season meetings with La Salle.
The Hawks covered an 11.5-point spread and helped the under 148.5 cash on February 12th.
La Salle won outright as a 9.5-point dog and the over 146 hit on Saturday.
La Salle is 3-2 ATS as a double-digit dog this season, while St. Joe’s is 5-4 as a double-digit favorite. It’s notable that the Hawks went 0-4 as a favorite above 15 points, but when they were favored between 10-14 points, they went 4-1 ATS.
St. Joe’s will be the team to drive the over. The Hawks scored 75+ points in 19 of their 20 victories. Their team total of over/under 78.5 is worth a look as well because they scored 80 or more in half of their wins.
On the other hand, La Salle’s offense was brutal in its recent defeats. It failed to eclipse the 65-point mark in six of its last eight losses. The Explorers’ team total is over/under 65.5.
St. Joe’s is probably going to win, but if you think La Salle has one more charge in it, FanDuel is offering a 30 percent profit boost on any outright underdog lines each day this week. That’s one of the better places to start with PA betting promos and NJ sportsbook promos on Thursday afternoon.
Tulsa vs. Temple (-3.5) (O/U: 142.5) (7 p.m. ET)
Temple should be in the A-10, not the AAC, but that’s a battle we’re just not going to win.
Anyway, the Owls are the No. 7 seed in Fort Worth against a Tulsa team that it split the regular-season series with.
Immediately, the one thing that stands out is the final scores of those games: 81-77 Temple and 80-74 Tulsa.
That’s two games in the 150s, much higher than the over/under set at 142.5.
Temple is tied for the third-best record to the over in Division I at 22-8. Only Le Moyne and USC have better winning percentages to the over.
Tulsa is 13-17 to the over, but the Golden Hurricane is 4-3 to the over in the last seven games.
Since we talked about team totals with St. Joe’s and La Salle, Temple’s team total is over/under 72.5. The Owls scored 73+ in 13 of their 17 victories.
Villanova at UConn (-6.5) (O/U: 134.5) (9:30 p.m. ET)
Villanova did what it was supposed to do Wednesday night: beat Seton Hall by double digits.
That was the easy task to complete at MSG, but now the ‘Cats have to play what is basically a road game against UConn.
The Huskies haven’t had a great season, but don’t be surprised if they come alive for the Big East tournament inside Storrs South. I’m personally rooting for Rick Pitino vs. Danny Hurley on Saturday night in MSG.
Nova covered the spread and the under hit in both regular-season meetings between the ‘Cats and Huskies.
Nova is 2-2 ATS as an underdog of six or more points, while UConn is 7-13 as a favorite of six or more points. A lot of those games, though, were as a double-digit favorite. The Huskies are 1-5 ATS as a favorite between six and 10 points.
The total of 134.5 is low for UConn games. The Huskies are only 1-1 to the total when the number closes below 135. Nova is 3-3 to the over when the total is at 135 or lower.
