In June of last year, the White Sox DFA’d Jimmy Rollins to bring up their #2 prospect. At the time, I wrote the move was “potentially putting a nail in the coffin of his career.” I was wrong.

In December, J-Roll™ signed a minor league deal with the Giants. Today, according to Andrew Baggarly of the East Bay Times, the Giants told Rollins he won’t make the big league roster, or the rooster, if you’re a Rube Baker fan.

It’s a big day for Rollins, who hit .125 in 40 at-bats this spring. He can opt out of his minor league deal today. That means, either Jimmy takes a minor league assignment from the Giants, or he opts out and essentially calls it a career. I was wrong last time, but this is probably the end of the road.

I’m sure a one-day contract from the Phillies would be waiting for him on the other side.
