It’s customary for returning big-name athletes to speak with local media before coming back to town. Players generally use it as an opportunity to simultaneously thank former fans and, like scorn lovers, boast about how good they’re doing with their new team and how much sex they’re now having.
Local media uses it to fill space.
That’s the norm. But not for Asante Samuel, who refused to speak with the Philly media today:
#Eagles PR person just came into media room to announce that Asante Samuel has declined to do conference call this week.

Former #Eagles CB Asante Samuel, currently with the #Falcons, has refused to do a conference call with #Eagles beat writers.

I could be fake outraged… but I’ll just laugh at the fact that local scriptuals will have to dig up another useless story for tomorrow’s piece of tree that will be driven to your home overnight as part of an archaic and costly process that can’t be sustained much longer.
If you’d like some insight from Asante, though, you can check out some highlights from his Twitter:

nothing new he rarely did media stuff when he played for the eagles…
i remember watching him on the post game once and gunner had to give him a gift card or something to ruth chris
Kyle sees the future….Newsweek is going online, no more glossy magazine.
they should interview the 60 million dollar man and ask him how he got juan fired
“I’ll just laugh at the fact that local scriptuals will have to dig up another useless story”. Yea… because you dont do the same. Please, in typical CB fashion, entertain us with an article about what Shane Victorino is wearing.
guess he wont be “tackling” the issues for us.
Pfft! Samuel had nothing of substance to impart to the media while he was here, what’s makes people think anything has changed since he left. I for once could care less.
Sounds like Kyle is jealous he never got a job in the real media.
He’s smarter than I thought – the local media want to interview him for ONE (1) reason and one reason only: To try and sucker him into saying something inflammatory about the city, fans, coaches or players. Then they have stories for a week, a season, a decade.
Now they will run for a day about how Samuel dissed ‘them’ and in turn dissed the city fans etc.
Fuck em all. Philly sports media is a bunch of doosh-bags anyway.
At least Kyle doesn’t pretend he’s not a doosh. I can respect that.
Who cares, he doesn’t play for a Philadelphia team anymore.
