Serving Up Some Dario Saric Crow
Time to serve some crow.
Dario Saric is on his way to (Philadelphia/Las Vegas) today to meet with the Sixers and sign his contract. For the last two years – the timeline Saric himself set on draft night – the “anonymous reports” and hot takes that Dario wasn’t coming over this year were plentiful. But before we point them out to you and hand out some Ls, let me again remind you of Dario’s timeline:
- On draft night in 2014, Saric said it would be two years and then he’d be in Philadelphia:
- “Yeah, I sign before the Draft because I’m choosing a better option for me to stay two years more in Europe to get more experience, to bring my basketball to another level.I don’t know. I’m choosing before the Draft because I don’t know if someone in Philadelphia choose me because he know I’m no liar, and one day I’ll be back in Philadelphia for sure.”
- June 2015: The Sixers look into bringing Saric over, but his Efes contract gets in the way.
- July 2015: Dario re-iterates that he wanted to be a Sixer ASAP but his contract was a stumbling block.
- November 2015: Dario Saric flat-out says he’s coming to the Sixers next season:
- “I’m in constant contact with the Sixers, and they wanted me to come this summer, but I couldn’t get out of the contract. Next summer I have a way out, and I’m gonna take it. I’ll try to go out as the Euroleague champion. That’s the dream.”
- December 2015: Dario says there isn’t an amount of money that could keep him in Turkey.
- Dario’s dad, an agent-like presence in his life, also says he’s coming over.
- April 2016: Dario tells his Efes teammates that he’s leaving to play for the Sixers.
- June 2016: Dario says he’s signing with the Sixers after his Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
- A Croatian newspaper says it’s 99% go that Dario is coming.
- July 2016: Dario unequivocally says he’s coming to play for the Sixers.
- He’s on his way to sign the contract today.
Again, Dario never once said he wasn’t coming, and said he was (while sticking to a timeline set two years ago) no fewer than eight times. So, who gets crow?

Remember when #TrustTheProcess cult kept including Saric in 16-17 as part of Hinkie's master plan coming together? https://t.co/kTwjO5WJ1q
— Marcus Hayes (@inkstainedretch) June 11, 2016
That would take luck. And Saric would be a fool to come until 2017-18. https://t.co/JuX8LmIGZm

Howard Eskin
Dario Saric will stay in turkey 2 more years because he will make more money w no rookie wage scale when he may come back to #sixers
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) June 23, 2015
Even better, Eskin’s “who knows with this guy anymore” is priceless considering… well, the fact that Saric never wavered:
"Dario Saric: I'm Playing for the 76ers Next Season" via @TeamStream who knows w this guy anymore https://t.co/9OPBV2GEM8
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) July 9, 2016
Of course, if he does come, it’s all because of Bryan Colangelo, this despite the fact that Saric said he was coming this season when Hinkie drafted him TWO FUCKING YEARS AGO:
@Billy_Metals looks like saric is coming next season for #sixers and I'm sure it helped that Bryan Colangelo is here and they try to win

John Smallwood
Personally, I remain skeptical that Dario Saric will be in a Sixers uniform for the 2016-17 season even with the latest reported tidbit that he has told his teammates in Turkey that he intends to come to the NBA this summer.
I remain skeptical… of Saric saying the same thing.
Saric, who was under contract in Europe when the Sixers drafted him, is still tied to his team in Turkey and might not come to Philadelphia next season, either.
@ESPNSteinLine yes I will seen plenty of givens fall apart before contract is official When Saric signs I'll believe

@Piratebro @_SeanDonnelly players play mainly 4 money. If money was not issue why didn't Saric come right away? His people knew the deal
— John Smallwood (@SmallTerp) February 22, 2016
@_SeanDonnelly Phillies in minors r under contract to them. Saric has no contract with Sixers and does not ever have 2 sign one

And this is just very recently:
If I had a dime for every Sixer fan who told me Saric was coming over this year, I'd have the extra money he'll get by staying in Turkey..

As I stated at the time, Saric' word was never to be trusted
— Brian Geltzeiler (@BGeltzNBA) June 13, 2016
The Saric situation was always going to be a crap shoot. This is why taking him at his word is kind of worthless https://t.co/malMh6P4zt
— Brian Geltzeiler (@BGeltzNBA) July 8, 2016
So Saric may wait another year so he can make so much more in 17-18. Who knew? https://t.co/tURL0eP3yh
— Brian Geltzeiler (@BGeltzNBA) June 13, 2016
And on a “good piece” on why Saric was to be considered a liar:
Good piece here on why these Saric reports can't be taken at face value. The financial benefit to waiting is huge https://t.co/hM5owb2htW

Dick Jerardi
For painting Saric as a ghost:
Saric remains a mystery who may never show up. At the least, we know he is not Kristaps Porzingis, a franchise changer in New York.
