If you stayed up for the entire Phillies game (like myself since I had to do the highlight for SportsCenter), good for you. If not, also good for you.

It started with a 25 minute rain delay but ended up finishing a little before midnight in 15 innings as the Phils edged the Tigers 3-2. After a fielding error and wild pitch brought home a Detroit run in the bottom of the 1st, Roman Quinn hit a 434 foot two-run home run to left field to give the Phils a 2-1 lead. It was only his third career dinger and first of the season.

Detroit came back to tie it in the sixth with a Nick Castellanos RBI double, but that would be all of the scoring for the next eight innings. Both bullpens did a solid job not allowing any runs, but it nearly ended in the bottom of the 14th. After Juan Nicasio gave up a leadoff double to Castellanos, Jose Alvarez struck out and walked the next two batters, bringing up Brandon Dixon. He singled to left field and looked like Detroit would win it with Castellanos coming home. But Brad Miller’s arm (and J.T. Realmuto’s awareness) came in:

The Phils got out of the inning, Scott Kingery led off the 15th with a triple before getting brought home by Rhys Hoskins, and the team won. Nola finished the night with seven strikeouts and two runs off four hits in seven innings. I was really impressed with Nick Pivetta in the bullpen. He went 3 2/3 and struck out five.

The short series with Detroit ends this afternoon at 1:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Vince Velasquez is on the mound against Jordan Zimmermann.

It also seems like more people are watching the Phillies, as local TV ratings have increased by 20%.
