The Phillies made only one move on deadline day, acquiring outfielder Corey Dickerson from the Pirates. A former All-Star, Dickerson will help the team’s outfield depth. They got him for pretty much nothing, which is good.

The first piece of bad news is that David Robertson is officially done for the year and will need surgery to repair his flexor tendon. He could also need Tommy John surgery as well. So much for paying him.

The second piece of bad news is that the team lost. San Francisco scored five runs in the game, all in the sixth inning and all off home runs in a 5-1 win over the Phils. After a Mike Yastrzemski walk, Buster Posey hit a two-run homer that ended Vince Velasquez’s night. Adam Morgan then gave up a Pablo Sandoval homer before allowing a Brandon Crawford single and a Kevin Pillar two-run shot to make it 5-0.

Up until the 5th, Velasquez wasn’t that bad. He went five innings and gave up three hits with six strikeouts before Yaz and Posey went up to the plate. But at the same time, the Phillies couldn’t solve Jeff Samardzija, who allowed three hits in six innings with five strikeouts.

The series concludes this afternoon at 1:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Jake Arrieta is on the mound against Dereck Rodriguez.

Also, Hector Neris dropped his appeal and will serve his three-game suspension starting today.
